The end of the 90s spawned one of the greatest series ever created. I am speaking of Cowboy Bebop, written by Keiko Nobumoto. Now terror strikes fans of the series a decade later as starting production of the Cowboy Bebop live action movie began in mid-2008, casting Keanu Reeves as the main role of Spike Spiegel. Even with Keiko Nobumoto and director of the series Shinichiro Watanabe as associate producers on the film, do 20th Century Fox and Reeves have what it takes to pull off the impossible?
Anyone can tell Keanu was chosen because of his past experience in action flicks along with today’s lack of actors currently known that can fit the role properly. Will the fight choreography learned from those movies be enough to recreate the smooth and deadly skill of Spiegel? Spike was known to follow the fighting and philosophical ways of Bruce Lee, using precise agile movement and strikes to destroy his opponents (kicking someone in the head while proceeding to backflip for example). I doubt CG effects and invisible wires will do justice to the needed backgrounds and skilled acrobatics actors would be unable to accomplish. As for him pulling off the attitude just prepare yourself for a Spike that apparently has schizophrenia as Point Break Keanu when he’s angry, Neo when he’s calm and Ted when he’s in a good mood.
I suggest you scream in horror, rant in anger and pray it’s a dream come true for the first 5 minutes then just forget about it because there’s no way. When in recent years has turning something animated into live action actually been a good thing? The Teenage Ninja Turtles 1&2 movies are the only things I can think of at all for the moment, haha (post a comment of any others you can think of). It has been almost 3 years since production starting hit the ears of the world and with the latest news of script rewrite do to the previous costing an enormous estimated amount, we’ll just have to wait for yet another beloved series to be dishonored by a not very anticipated live action version.
